Smart Wi-Fi Plugs

Smart Wi-Fi Plugs are an essential part of any smart home transformation today. I don’t know where I be without these plugs that I now have scattered throughout my home controlling devices whether I’m at home or away. Last count I think I had about 11 of these smart plugs controlling plugged-in electronics such as lamps, fans, coffee pots and more.

The plugs that I use are the smart mini wi-fi plugs from TP-Link (model HS105). At first I bought a few single plugs, but found that they also come in 2-pack’s, which makes it cost less in the long run. These things are compact and I can fit two of them in each outlet if I need two, one right on top of the other.

With these plugs you can control just one device or use these in a group function and control multiple devices at the same time. If you want, you could also manage a group of devices that are mixed with smart plugs and smart wi-fi bulbs. You can also set schedules for your devices and an Away Mode that will simulate occupancy while you’re away from home.

I couldn’t believe how easy these things were to setup. In three very easy steps, I was able to get these out of the box and up and running within 3-5 minutes. Once installed, if I need to move them around the house and make them operate different devices the change is very simple. The Kasa or Amazon Alexa App make it very simple to turn these on & off as well as make any necessary changes to the plugs and what they control.

There are a couple of ways to control these smart wi-fi plugs. You can use the free Kasa App on your smartphone or you can also use an Amazon Alexa enabled devices, such as an Amazon Echo or Amazon Dot. You can also use Google Home devices as well.

Don’t be intimidated by smart home technology. It’s very easy to get started and these smart wi-fi plugs are a great first step to get started. You don’t need an Amazon Echo or Google Home device to begin to use these plugs (but it’s more fun with an Echo or Home device 😊), just a smartphone and the downloaded free Kasa App.

I will say this…once you get started adding smart home technology to your home you’ll get hooked and begin adding more smart home devices throughout your home. It’s a great way to enjoy home living even more and add a little fun around the house.
