Smart Bulbs for Smart Homes

Smart bulbs are essential

Smart bulbs are a necessity for any smart home today. As you are building your smart home, both smart bulbs and smart plugs will be an essential part of your strategy. I will admit, being able to turn on/off the lights by just talking to Amazon Alexa turns out is pretty cool & convenient.

It’s very simple…”Alexa, turn on the living room light”, and viola, there is light. Or, “Alexa, turn the living room light blue”. We got the color TP-Link Smart Wi-Fi bulb (LB130), so we can literally change the light to any color imaginable – through voice or app.

Controlling smart bulbs

There are two ways to control the TP-Link Smart Wi-Fi bulbs. The first way is by speaking to Amazon Alexa (via the Amazon Echo) and the second way is through the free Kasa app on your smartphone. Navigating the Kasa app is very easy and it was quick to load the app and then walk through the setup of the TP-Link smart bulb. Most of the time I find myself asking Alexa to control the lights more than using the Kasa app, but sometimes I use the app – especially if I’m looking for a certain color.

Until we got the TP-Link Smart Wi-Fi bulb we didn’t realize the added convenience of being able to control lights from a distance. Whether you’re sitting on the couch about to watch a movie or at the dinner table and simply just want to dim the lights just slightly, without having to get up, controlling your lights with your voice is a true convenience.

Benefits to smart bulbs

Not only can we just turn on/off the lights, but with this Smart Wi-Fi bulb we can dim the lights and also change the color of the lights – up to 16 million different colors – that’s a lot of different moods.

One huge advantage with the TP-Link Smart Wi-Fi bulb LB130 over other Wi-Fi bulbs is that you do not need a bridge with the TP-Link bulbs. A bridge acts as a connector for the bulb to be able to connect to your home’s wireless network. TP-Link smart bulb has all the necessary wireless technology built right into the bulb itself, thereby eliminating the need for any additional accessory or bridge. For those of you not familiar with what a bridge looks like, it looks a lot like a wireless router that you most likely already have in your home.

Being able to control the lighting in your home is a huge plus. It’s an extremely convenient thing to be able to use your voice and turn on/off the lights. It also an added ‘Fun Factor’ (if you have a Wi-Fi color bulb) to be able to change the color of the lighting to suit whatever mood you are in.

Smart bulb setup

Step 1: Download the TP-Link Kasa app on the Apple App Store or Google Play
Step 2: Screw in the Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulb like any other light bulb.
Step 3: Configure the Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulb preferences on the Kasa app.

Our first Smart bulb was in the living & dining rooms. We then added smart bulbs to all the kids room so they can also control their lighting with their Amazon Dots. Smart Wi-Fi bulbs are easy to use, very convenient and can also save you on energy costs.

Get smart and get your Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulbs today.
